Maths, Further Maths and Physics Tuition for Home-Educated GCSE and A-Level Students

Every young person is different. That’s why at Instant Maths we tailor our one-to-one and small-group tuition around the academic needs and personal circumstances of your child.

For home-educated students, working with the same tutor over the long term means we get to know not just their academic strengths and weaknesses, but also which teaching approaches bring out their best. This can help them achieve better grades and become more confident learners.

Working with parents

Parents are key partners in our tuition. We make sure they are regularly informed about their child’s learning, progress and any areas of concern.

One-to-one tuition makes a difference

One-to-one tuition means we can focus completely on your child. We know exactly where they are in the syllabus, what areas they find difficult and the pace they work at. We can adapt lessons when needed and ensure your child has the freedom to ask questions, request a different explanation and take more time.

This environment can be particularly beneficial for students with SEND, as well as those who feel anxious or overwhelmed in larger groups, need more time to process new ideas or find it difficult to ask for help in front of others.

It can also be helpful for homeschooled children with gaps in their learning or whose interests and commitments require a flexible timetable.

The value of continuity

Our tutors regularly stay with students from the start of their GCSEs right to the end of their A levels. This helps us to plan and deliver lessons consistently, monitor progress and cover the full syllabus. It also means we can revisit prior learning, ensuring it is retained for when needed later in the course.

As we know our students well, we can make better decisions when it comes to homework, independent study, revision planning and exam practice, while being in a position to offer university course guidance and UCAS references.

When maths and physics are taught by the same tutor, it is easier to show your child how the two subjects fit together, helping them understand difficult ideas more clearly. And with our industry experience, students can see how their learning has real-world applications and which careers it can lead to.

The benefits of small group lessons

Where two or three students are working at a similar level, there is also the opportunity for small group sessions. The benefit of these lessons is that students can share ideas and work together to solve problems, an approach that can deepen and reinforce their learning.

Real life successes

“Qasid persevered with our son when our son was clearly not interested. He was patient and consistent and by the end of the process the lad was saying that he was the best teacher he’s ever had. Any success he achieves on physics GCSE would not have been possible without Qasid.”

A parents feedback

Here is the feedback questionnaire from the parent of a recent student.

What was your child’s situation when we first started working together?

My daughter was extremely anxious and lacking in confidence at the start. She had been poorly served by tutors in other subjects and needed to feel confident in the subjects which are most important to her. She also needed calm, consistent support to feel she could cope with her learning and the demands of exams.

What made you feel confident continuing with Instant Maths for four years?

The decision to continue for four years was largely driven by my daughter. She felt reassured by your depth of knowledge across the subject areas and trusted your guidance. This made it easy for us to keep going with you long-term.

How did you find our reliability and long-term commitment?

You were beyond awesome. There was more than one occasion when we had to postpone lessons, or she had not completed homework because of her anxiety or other issues, and you always handled this with patience and understanding rather than frustration.

As a parent, how did you find the communication and feedback?

Communication and feedback, as a parent, were excellent. During the A-level exam period in particular, you adapted your focus as each exam came up and kept me clearly informed, so I always knew what she was working on and how she was progressing.

Did you feel we understood your child as an individual?

Absolutely. You recognised her tendency to catastrophise when tackling exam papers, and while you acknowledged her perfectionism, you gently helped her move towards a more realistic and balanced view of her work.

What difference did the tuition make academically or in confidence?

The tuition made a significant difference both academically and in her confidence. A traditional classroom, or a typical online homeschool model with one teacher to many students, does not suit someone like my daughter.

One-to-one tuition allowed her to work at her own pace, ask for clarification whenever she needed it, and most importantly, feel actively involved in her own education.  This aspect will be invaluable when she goes to university.

What would you say to another parent considering homeschooling or long-term tuition with Instant Maths?

I would say you have been a lifesaver. You have supported my daughter academically and emotionally, and I honestly do not think she would have managed the journey through GCSEs and A levels without you.

Frequently asked questions

Which students benefit most from one-to-one tuition?

One-to-one tuition can benefit students of all abilities, from those who need extra support to those aiming for the highest grades.

It is particularly helpful for students who:

  • are falling behind at school
  • are preparing for GCSEs or A Levels
  • need support with SATs or 11+ preparation
  • have SEND or additional learning needs
  • lack confidence in the classroom
  • are homeschooled
  • want to extend their learning beyond the school curriculum.

Because lessons are personalised, the tutor can focus on exactly what each student needs.

Many homeschooling families use one-to-one tuition to provide specialist subject teaching, prepare for GCSEs and A Levels, or support areas where additional expertise is helpful.

Lessons can be arranged during the day and tailored to fit around your family’s homeschooling timetable.

Choosing the right tutor involves considering your child’s age, subject, learning style and goals.

We take the time to understand your requirements before matching your child with an experienced tutor who has the appropriate qualifications, teaching experience and personality. If circumstances change, we can also help arrange an alternative tutor.
